Secret Beach

Secret Beach is a local ‘word of mouth’ name given to this beautiful collection of coves, rocks and small beach areas.     if you are a tourist and just driving through you would never even know it was really there.     after asking questions and listening to off-hand descriptions i finally stumbled onto it.     there is a small place to park behind the HWY guard rail and there is a coastal hiking sign telling you things not to do, but no sign that says what the place is.     the small parking area can maybe handle four or five cars, but at that point there might not be enough room to back up and turn around.     the access to the parking area is a one car wide pathway between the end of the guard rail and an embankment.     if you want to find it on google maps you can use a lat and dept of 42.196967, -124.370402, or you can use 21762 oregon coast highway, brookings oregon.     if you are wanting to drive there you can find it by driving south of mile marker 345 an odometer distance of 3.5 tenths of a mile.     once there you will have a fairly steep ten minute hike along the north side of the Miller Creek ravine in order to get down to the scenic beach.     as it is with most of these rugged cliff beach areas, it is best that you investigate tidal charts in an attempt to be down at the water during low tide or you could find yourself with not much beach between the waves and sheer rock walls..     here at Secret Beach there is a southern section of beach which necessitates trekking through water about a foot deep for maybe six or eight feet While at Low Tide! – and which you cannot reach at high tide.     from that southern section of beach there is a pass through cave which you can enter from the south.     the northern entrance to the cave is always under water.     there are pics from inside that cave on this web page.   there are also some nice pics of this secret beach area from high up on top of the rock cliffs.     these high above places were accessed by hiking in from the Thunder Rock Cove trail head located 0.4 tenths of a mile to the south of the secret beach parking area.     enjoy.
